Thousands of people at Assin Fosu in the Assin North District of the Central Region on Tuesday turned out in their numbers to meet the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at a rally that could be described as Kasoa rally number two.
It took Nana Addo and his entourage two hours to reach the durbar grounds as anxious supporters lined up along the street amid dancing and drumming to signify their support for the NPP.
The enthusiastic crowd, dressed in party paraphernalia was so excited that security officers had a hectic time controlling the people to enable the convoy move to the rally grounds.
Others also did brisk business selling the party's paraphernalia.
Speaking at the rally, a defected member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Okatakyie Ward, who was a leading member of the party in the region, said he had now realized that the PNDC/NDC led by former President Jerry John Rawlings, actually disappointed Ghanaians, hence his decision to defect from the party.
Okatakyie Ward disclosed that the good policies that had been implemented by President John Agyekum Kufuor within eight years was an indication that the NDC really sent Ghanaians into their graves.
The whole place got charged when former Minister of Trade, Private Sector Development and PSI, Alan Kyeremanten was introduced.
Mr. Kyeremanten in his address said the NPP was sure of winning the election one-touch and called on all floating voters to vote for the party.
"I am playing as Essien for the NPP, with Nana Addo playing as Stephen Appiah, in a match between NDC and NPP; there is no way NPP would be defeated in the December elections," he remarked.
He underscored the need for Ghanaians to vote for the NPP based on its performances.
Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, one of the defeated flagbearer aspirants of the NPP, said this year’s election was very crucial since it would determine whether the country would go back or forward.
Mr. Agyarko stressed the need for Ghanaians not to be enticed by the monies politicians would give them but think about their future and that of the country.
Another flagbearer aspirant of the party, Kwabena Agyepong, said the country needed a courageous, focused and bold person like Nana Addo to lead it to the Promised Land, calling on Ghanaians to vote massively for Nana in the December general elections.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Stephen Asamoah Boateng remarked that a vote for the NDC Presidential Candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills would definitely determine the coming back of former President Rawlings.
"Rawlings has done some before and we know he can do it again this time, so Ghanaians should watch out," he stated.
Some areas Nana Addo and his team visited were Assin Kekyewere, Assin Nyankumase Ahenkro, Assin Manso, Assin Nsuta, Assin Adubiase, Assin Akropong, Wurakese, Breku and Akonfudi.
